Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sales 2025

The Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sales have wrapped up for another year. The market was expected to be a little softer than previous years, however, vendors presented high quality drafts that met the market. Prices were strong, with an average of $88,000 and a solid clearance rate of 86% on day 1. The buzz of the sale was all about Darling View’s champion stallion, Playing God, with buyers bidding keenly to secure one of his progeny for their stables. The record price for a colt was smashed, with a very popular colt by Playing God going under the hammer for $450,000, topping the sale.
The Playing God colt, lot 15, was one of three yearlings to sell for more than $400,000, which is very positive for WA breeders. The sale topping colt is the first foal of an unraced Sessions mare, who is a half-sister to Group One winning sire Portland Sky. He was presented in the draft of John Andrew’s Alwyn Park Stud on behalf of the proven local Group One producing breeder, Anita Vale. John had a high opinion of the horse ahead of the sale. “He’s just a cracking type,” Andrew said. “He is such a lovely natured horse. The amount of times he has been out – he’s taken the whole lot in his stride.” The colt will head to the stables of leading trainer, Danny Morton, and begin his career in WA, which is great boost for local racing. Congratulations to Anita Vale, Alwyn Park and all connections.
As the selling continued, Ridgeport Holdings sold a Zoustar colt, who is a half-brother to Saintoria, for $400,000. Yarradale Stud’s Playing God / Super Stardom colt also sold for $400,000, whilst Lynward Park Stud sold their lovely Playing God / High Aims colt for $300,000. Playing God progeny averaged a selling price of just over $150,000. Of the top 5 vendors by average, three were Milne customers: Alwyn Park Stud, Lynward Park Stud and Ridgeport Holdings. Resident Alwyn Park stallion, Maschino, also had a stella sale, with his progeny averaging $117,000 on day 1.
Day 2 of the sale also saw strong selling, with an average price of $40,000 and a clearance rate of 78%. Again, Playing God was the sought after sire, producing 5 of the top 10 priced lots, all selling for over $90,000. There was excitement right till the end, with the last lot of the sale, a Maschino / Burning Magic colt presented by Ruby Racing, topping the day at $185,000. Earlier on day 2 another Maschino colt, Maschino / Wowee, presented by Mungrup Stud, sold for $170,000.
As one of the biggest weeks for WA breeders wraps up, we send huge congratulations to all the stud teams for the months of dedication and preparation that has gone into getting these youngsters to the sales. It is fantastic to see the finished product from the farms we work closely with, providing feed and nutrition programs. Many of these youngsters we have known since they were foals. We wish these horses the best of luck as they begin their careers and look forward to following their progress.
We thoroughly enjoyed catching up with breeders, trainers and veterinarian colleagues during the event. It is a great opportunity for collaboration and exchanging ideas, information and experiences with our industry friends. We look forward to the breeding year ahead!
